REUNION - PARIS - MAURICE
In the heart of a forest park of 13 hectares, overlooking the city of Saint-Denis in Reunion Island, Le Moca is an ancient residence dubbed as one of the historical monuments that was transformed to a seminar center. The project consisted of the restoration of the existing buildings – the main house, the auxiliary house and two smaller local traditional houses ‘longeres’ and the addition of an annex space to be used as a reception area. The architectural challenge was to focus on new volumes that should not compete with existing buildings, but merge with them especially with the main building, the reception pavilion which should maintain the role of the central unifying building. The new reception areas are organized in the form of combs in simple volumes, covered by roof terraces, slightly below the bridle path that remains the major axis of the composition. They interconnect largely amongst themselves, allowing for the provision of a large open space. The wooden facades protect them from the light and offer large porosity and multiple perspectives on the park and its centennial species put forward.
